I was born and raised in a coastal city at the southern tip of Korea, where dried anchovies are a local specialty but difficult to find in the United States.

Each time I visit my hometown, I bring back small plastic bags filled with various types and sizes. These bags evoke movement through time and space and the experience of diaspora.

To recall my hometown, I carefully observe each anchovy's face, expression, and dried form. Each seems to carry its own story. Rather than viewing them as a group, I consider each as an individual.

What kind of life did it live to travel all the way to Brooklyn and be observed by me?
